The Forzani Group Ltd. is proud of the Power of Sport for Kids community giving program. Introduced through Sport Chek stores nationally in October 2005, its purpose is to provide opportunities for sports, play and physical activity to deserving children who may not otherwise have the resources to take part. This is a program that benefits children and provides them with the chance to experience the joy of an active lifestyle.

The Power of Sport for Kids is a nationwide program created to recognize groups and organizations that support at-risk or disadvantaged children and youth (between the ages of 5 to 18) who would benefit from the infusion of sports and activity in their lives. Sport Chek stores’ fundraising initiatives provide the funds for a variety of sports equipment and accessories that will have the greatest impact to the children.

The physical, emotional and social benefits to an active lifestyle are a vital component to fostering healthy development in children and youth. Sport Chek employees are passionate about sports and want to see every Canadian kid enjoying sports regardless of financial or physical limitations. Well over $750,000 has been raised over the past two years through Sport Chek stores across the country. Thanks to the support of our employees, customers and vendors, we have contributed thousands of units of sports equipment to recipient organizations since 2005.

We believe that together we can make a significant impact on the health of Canadians as a whole by encouraging and enabling more children to participate in the sports, activity and play that they otherwise may not have access to, due to lack of funding or equipment.

To be eligible to participate, your organization must meet the following criteria:

• must be a community group or non-profit agency
• work with disadvantaged or at-risk children between the ages of 5-18 years
• incorporate a recreation program into their curriculum
• have some private funding as part of overall budget (not be 100 per cent government funded)
• be invited to participate by a representative of The Forzani Group Ltd.
